What this privacy policy covers

Nine sections, in the order most people need them. The two that matter most on an ordinary visit are cookies and your rights.

What we collect

This privacy policy deals with three groups of information, and only three: what you send us on a form, what your browser sends, and what cookies record.

What you send us

The enquiry form on the contact page asks for four things: your name, your email address, a subject and your message. Anything beyond that is your choice — a site address, a building name, the make of an existing operator, photographs of a door that has failed. People often send those because they make a quote faster, but nothing on this site requires them.

What the quote form asks

The request a quote form asks for your name, email address and telephone number, and lets you add a company name, a site address and the details of the entrance you are pricing. We use it to prepare a quotation and nothing else.

What the careers form asks

The careers form takes your name, email address, message and the CV you choose to attach. It is read by us for recruitment only, and it is never used to market anything to you.

What your browser sends

Our web server records the usual request data: IP address, browser and device type, the page asked for, the date and time, and the page you came from. Every web server does this. We use it to keep the site available, to trace faults and to deal with abuse.

What cookies and embedded services record

Set out in full in section 4 of this privacy policy. It is a short list. Only advertising measurement waits for your agreement; the rest load with the page.

What we never ask for. This site does not collect identity numbers, banking details or payment card data anywhere. If a page ever appears to ask you for those, it is not ours — tell us.

Cookies and tracking on this site

Six things can set or read something in your browser here, and this privacy policy lists every one of them. Two are needed for the site to work at all, one waits for your consent, and the remaining three — the page-view count, the typefaces and the embedded map — load with the page.

Who we share information with

Only the parties that make the site and our replies work, and only what each one needs.

• Our hosting provider — stores the website and its server logs.
• Our email provider — carries and stores your enquiry so we can answer it.
• Google — reCAPTCHA, Ads measurement, Fonts and the embedded map, as described in section 4 of this privacy policy.
• Automattic — Jetpack Stats, and Akismet, which checks form submissions for spam.
• Professional advisers and authorities — only where the law requires it.

Several of these operate outside South Africa, so your information may be processed in other countries. POPIA permits this where the recipient is subject to comparable protection or where the transfer is necessary to do what you asked us to do. We do not sell or rent personal information to anybody, for any purpose.

Your rights under POPIA

Whatever else this privacy policy says, POPIA gives you the rights below, and you may exercise any of them at no charge.

• Confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and tell you what it is.
• Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
• Delete information we no longer have a reason to keep.
• Stop processing you object to, on reasonable grounds.
• Withdraw your consent to advertising cookies — the Cookie settings link does this in one click.

Send the request to marcel@mc-automations.com. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, so that we do not hand someone else’s information to the wrong person. If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, which supervises POPIA.
