Privacy policy for MC Automations
This privacy policy explains what we collect when you enquire about an automatic entrance or simply read this site, why we hold it, who else gets to see it, and how to have it corrected or deleted. It is written for the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and it describes this website as it actually works rather than as a template.

What this privacy policy covers
Nine sections, in the order most people need them. The two that matter most on an ordinary visit are cookies and your rights.

MC Automations supplies, installs, commissions and services automatic door systems from Johannesburg. For POPIA purposes we are the responsible party for the personal information described in this privacy policy.

This privacy policy covers this website and the enquiries that reach us through it. Coetz Glazing, a trading name of the same company, runs a separate site with its own policy.

What we collect
This privacy policy deals with three groups of information, and only three: what you send us on a form, what your browser sends, and what cookies record.
What you send us
The enquiry form on the contact page asks for four things: your name, your email address, a subject and your message. Anything beyond that is your choice — a site address, a building name, the make of an existing operator, photographs of a door that has failed. People often send those because they make a quote faster, but nothing on this site requires them.
What the quote form asks
The request a quote form asks for your name, email address and telephone number, and lets you add a company name, a site address and the details of the entrance you are pricing. We use it to prepare a quotation and nothing else.
What the careers form asks
The careers form takes your name, email address, message and the CV you choose to attach. It is read by us for recruitment only, and it is never used to market anything to you.
What your browser sends
Our web server records the usual request data: IP address, browser and device type, the page asked for, the date and time, and the page you came from. Every web server does this. We use it to keep the site available, to trace faults and to deal with abuse.
What cookies and embedded services record
Set out in full in section 4 of this privacy policy. It is a short list. Only advertising measurement waits for your agreement; the rest load with the page.
What we never ask for. This site does not collect identity numbers, banking details or payment card data anywhere. If a page ever appears to ask you for those, it is not ours — tell us.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis
To answer your enquiry and price the work
Necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract. Without a name and a way to reply, there is no quote.
To keep records of quotes, jobs and service calls
Our legitimate interest, and in places a legal obligation. An entrance we install may need a spare part or a service visit years later, and the job record is what makes that possible.
To keep the site working and free of abuse
Our legitimate interest. This covers server logs, spam filtering on the form and the bot check described below.
To measure advertising
Consent only. Nothing in this category runs until you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner, and you can withdraw that at any time.
Nothing in this privacy policy permits otherwise: we do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.

Cookies and tracking on this site
Six things can set or read something in your browser here, and this privacy policy lists every one of them. Two are needed for the site to work at all, one waits for your consent, and the remaining three — the page-view count, the typefaces and the embedded map — load with the page.
mc_consent — ours, strictly necessary
Records which of the two cookie buttons you pressed so the banner does not ask again. Stored for six months in your browser. It holds one word and nothing that identifies you.
Google reCAPTCHA v3 — strictly necessary
Loads across the site and scores whether the enquiry form is being filled in by a person or a script. Without it the form fills with spam within days. It is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Google Ads — consent only
Measures whether an advertisement led to an enquiry, and sets advertising cookies such as _gcl_au. This site runs Google Consent Mode, so before you choose, and permanently if you choose “Essential only”, advertising and analytics storage stay denied and no advertising cookie is written. We have checked this on the live site rather than assumed it.
Jetpack Stats — counts, not identities
Run by Automattic to give us page-view totals. See the Automattic privacy policy.
Google Fonts
The typefaces on this site are served by Google, which means your IP address is visible to Google when a font loads.
Google Maps
The map on the contact page is embedded by Google and may set Google cookies once it loads. If you would rather it did not, our address is written out in text directly above it.

How to change your cookie choice
The banner appears once, on your first visit. After that the choice described in this privacy policy stays yours to change:
- Use the Cookie settings link, which sits in the footer of every page and reopens the banner.
- Choose Essential only to keep the site working with no advertising cookies, or Accept all to allow advertising measurement as well.
- Clear this site’s data in your browser, which erases the choice and brings the banner back.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings, which overrides everything on this page.
The choice is stored in your own browser, not against your name on our side. That means it has to be made again on a different device, in a different browser, or after you clear site data.

How long we keep it
This privacy policy sets six retention rules. The shortest is the one most visitors care about, so it is first.
Enquiries and quotes
Kept while we deal with them, and afterwards as part of our quoting and job records. An automatic entrance is a long-lived installation: knowing what was fitted, and when, is what lets us send the right part years later.
Quote requests
Kept for three years with our quoting and job records, because a quotation is often revisited and an entrance we priced may come back as an order or a service call later.
Job applications and CVs
Kept for twelve months so we can come back to you when a role opens, then deleted. Ask us to remove yours sooner and we will.
Records supporting a transaction
Kept for the periods South African tax and company law require.
Server logs
Held by our host on a short rolling cycle and then overwritten.
Your cookie choice
Six months, or until you clear your browser — whichever comes first.
Ask us to delete something and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it. If that is the case we will tell you which record it is and why.

Your rights under POPIA
Whatever else this privacy policy says, POPIA gives you the rights below, and you may exercise any of them at no charge.
- Confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and tell you what it is.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete information we no longer have a reason to keep.
- Stop processing you object to, on reasonable grounds.
- Withdraw your consent to advertising cookies — the Cookie settings link does this in one click.
Send the request to marcel@mc-automations.com. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, so that we do not hand someone else’s information to the wrong person. If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, which supervises POPIA.

Changes to this privacy policy
We change this privacy policy when the site changes — a new form, a new measurement tag, a service dropped. The date below always tells you which version you are reading.
Where a change alters what we do with your information rather than simply how we describe it, we will reset the cookie banner so that you are asked again rather than carried over on an old answer. Nothing in this privacy policy narrows the rights POPIA gives you; where the two ever disagree, the Act wins.

Newsletter subscriptions
This privacy policy also covers the newsletter sign-up in the footer of every page, which was added in September 2026.
What we collect. Your email address, and nothing else. There is no name field, no company field and no telephone field on that form. You are not asked to create an account.
Why we use it. To email you when we publish a new automatic door guide. We do not use the subscriber list for sales approaches, we do not add enquiry or quotation contacts to it automatically, and we do not sell, rent or share it. If you have sent us an enquiry, that does not subscribe you to anything.
Lawful basis. Consent, given by entering your address and submitting the form. Consent is the only basis we rely on for the newsletter, and it can be withdrawn at any time without affecting anything else in this privacy policy.
Who processes it. The subscription is handled by Jetpack, which is operated by Automattic Inc. The address you submit is stored on Automattic systems and the confirmation and newsletter emails are sent from there rather than from our own mail server. That means the data is processed outside South Africa, which section 72 of POPIA permits where the recipient is subject to comparable protection or where you have consented to the transfer. If that is not acceptable to you, do not subscribe — the rest of the site works without it.
How to unsubscribe. Every newsletter email carries an unsubscribe link, and it takes effect immediately without contacting us. You can also email info@mc-automations.com and we will remove the address for you.
How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe. We do not retain a record of addresses that have unsubscribed beyond what Automattic needs to honour the unsubscribe itself.
How long we keep the rest of it
Retention is the question this privacy policy is asked about most, so it is worth stating plainly rather than leaving to inference.
Enquiries that did not become work. Kept while the enquiry is live and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to it, then deleted. We would rather still have your opening size when you call back in six months than make you measure it again.
Quotations, jobs and service records. Kept for as long as we may need them to support a warranty claim, a maintenance history or a tax record. A 24-month operator warranty and the maintenance history behind it are the practical reason these outlive the job itself.
Career applications. Kept for the role applied for. If you would like yours removed sooner, say so and we will remove it.
Where a record no longer has a purpose under this privacy policy and we are not required to keep it, it is deleted rather than archived indefinitely.
Exercising your rights under this privacy policy
POPIA gives you the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to a particular use, and to complain to the Information Regulator. None of those requests require a form or a fee.
Email info@mc-automations.com or call 010 412 0062 and say what you want. We will tell you what we hold, where it came from and what we have done with it. If we cannot act on a request — because a record has to be kept for a tax or warranty reason, for example — this privacy policy commits us to telling you that plainly and saying why, rather than ignoring the request.
Keeping this privacy policy current
This privacy policy is reviewed whenever something on the site changes what is collected, which is why the newsletter section above carries the month it was added. If we add a form, a tracking service or an embedded tool, the change belongs here before it goes live rather than afterwards.
If you are reading this privacy policy because you are deciding whether to send us an enquiry, the short version is that we ask for what we need to price the work and nothing else, and we do not pass it on.
